Radical Reading Room

  • Ascension Church Hulme 282 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5TQ (map)

Radical Reading Room is a small collection of books, pamphlets, and magazines from the ‘new social movements’ of the 1970s to around the year 2000. It is a space for reading, reflection, and conversation, exploring themes from the collection that continue to resonate today.

The collection originated from the ‘Feminist Webs’ project and includes material on Women’s Studies, Queer Studies, Anti-Racist Studies, and Trade Union Studies. Donations from Christian and post-Christian feminists of various traditions have also contributed to a selection of feminist, womanist, and liberation theology texts.

In this session, we will explore Filled to the Brim, a creative work by activists in Glasgow and Manchester reflecting on their everyday experiences of navigating and surviving inequality in the UK.

We will discuss the images and themes in Filled to the Brim and examine the collaborative process behind its creation. Through quick creative reflection exercises, we will respond to these ideas, with the opportunity to pick up a journal, materials, and prompts to explore your own experiences.
