Gaza: What Can We Do?

Following the devastating news emerging from Gaza, many have been left asking the question: “What can I do?”

This very question was raised earlier this year during a lecture in London by Daniel Munayer, delivered in collaboration with the charity Embrace the Middle East. Daniel encouraged those present to reflect on how they might respond meaningfully within their own contexts.

Alongside ongoing efforts such as writing to politicians, attending Friday night vigils in Manchester, and joining protest marches, a new opportunity for action has emerged – and it began last Wednesday.

Embrace the Middle East has launched a poignant initiative called #FastForGaza, responding to a heartfelt plea from Christian communities in Jerusalem. The campaign invites people of faith around the world to dedicate a day to prayer and fasting in solidarity with those suffering in Gaza.

Participants are encouraged to fast in a way that suits them, whether by giving up certain foods, social media, or other comforts, and using that time for prayer, reflection, and advocacy.

Notably, Bishop Rachel Treweek is also supporting the campaign. She is currently on a visit to Palestine and Israel, offering a compassionate and visible presence during a time of profound need.

Supporters are being encouraged to share photos of themselves holding “#FastForGaza” signs on social media and to tag @followembrace. The campaign also urges the public to continue lobbying the UK Foreign Secretary to lift the aid blockade and address breaches of international law.
